National legal business DWF has appointed Dr. Gordon Blanke, former Counsel and Sector Leader of the International Arbitration practice of Baker & McKenzie Habib Al Mulla, Abu Dhabi/Dubai, as a partner in the firm’s international commercial arbitration team.

Based in Dubai, Gordon’s experience in delivering high-value arbitration services to clients across the UK, Europe and the Middle East will allow the firm to grow its client base and further develop the cross-sector services it offers to clients.

Gordon’s practice specialises in international arbitration, with a particular focus on working with Middle Eastern clients who require specialist dispute legal services either domestically or internationally, or for European or US clients that require arbitration services in the region. He also has extensive knowledge of commercial arbitration in both common and civil law jurisdictions in the US and Europe across a variety of industry sectors including private equity, banking and finance, construction, real estate, commodities, hospitality, oil & gas and shipping. Gordon has acted as lead counsel and arbitrator in a number of leading international cases under a wide range of UK and international rules of arbitration rules, as well as ad hoc. Gordon also holds rights of audience before the DIFC Courts.

Gordon commented on his appointment: “I’m looking forward to joining DWF and helping to not only expand the firm’s arbitration practice in the Middle East, which will complement the existing focus on the construction and insurance practices in Dubai, but to help drive the overall growth and development of the firm’s profile in the region.”

DWF launched its Dubai location in early 2015, the firm’s first operation outside of the UK and Ireland.
